(POEM) Teeth by Zelda Bean

Teeth

Let freedom ring.

It’s never been heard before.

My teeth are yellowed

from coffee.

I feel like I have also never been heard.

All of my words meant nothing,

but at least I know they happened.

It’s a small place in heaven

for you and me,

but we’ll be just fine.

We meet the other invisible ones in heaven.

When we get there,

we will understand

the demands of time.

It is not fruitful to believe

that it’s okay to disbelieve everything.

You must believe in something.

I believe

I have never quieted this mouth.

How open it is!

I curl my lips up—

bare my coffee teeth.

I give myself the time I need.

I will look forward to meeting freedom

in the holiest places.
