(SKETCHBOOK SUNDAY) Let it be garbage!

I didn’t get a full Sketchbook Sunday today. I slept in and discovered a huge blister on my ankle when I awoke. My dad took me to urgent care and I got home around three. Cranked out three drawings. I’m trying to get back into portraits, because I’m currently listening to all of Amy Sherald’s podcast appearances, while doing my abstract watercolor series. For portraits, I can’t begin a sketch with a podcast or audiobook. I need instrumental worship music so I can focus on the details. Once I get a rough sketch, I go to 90′ music or calling friends or podcasts. Today, I called my best friend, Tina. I also listened to the wise words of Amy Sherald. I do not remember the order. The first sketch is Clark Kent or Christopher Reeves. Tina and I had to look up why he was sick. He got thrown off a horse. It’s a Mandela effect. I remember it being an illness. I admit that I didn’t get his likeness perfect, but that’s the point of a sketchbook. Get the shit out of your system before going to canvas. Nobody has to see it. Unless you’re showing your progress like I am.

As for Mr. Bean, I feel I got the likeness. I just wish I drew him on a day I had more stamina so I could go ham with my style.

I did this for relief from the tightness and effort it takes to create a portrait.

Next week I’ll start earlier. Join me with your sketches next Sunday and tag it on Instagram as #sketchbooksunday…
