I was sitting on my porch in the summer of 2018 when the ghost of Picasso started talking to me. I’d have to hunt for the drawing. He was yelling, “Kandinsky! Kandinsky! You must see!”
Wassily Kandinsky didn’t come to talk to me. Picasso did. For months. He was my art coach. And annoying. At first it was cool, ya know? “Picasso wants to work with me.”T
There should have been different reasons making me not want to hear from Picasso. I turned a blind eye to how problematic he was. Now, I have a hard time putting Picasso on a pedestal. I did, however, say in my artist statement that I could draw really well at a young age like him. I cringe.
I drew this intuitively. I do this sometimes, and it floors me. I sure had Picasso on the brain. And now I’m very lucky he is not in my brain.
