(Artist Essay) Waleeya- You Don’t See Her, But She Still Hears

Another voice portrait! This is Waleeya Kamali, or Walee for short. She is friends with Mac and lets him sleep on her couch. She goes to school for psychology at UW-Madison. While visiting the bar in Waukesha, Hella Goode accidentally grants her the power to read minds. She is very tired because of this experience and is shocked by what she finds in others’ minds.

Walee is a tall and big woman. Tall and fat. She crushes on Haze Lit. The more the background pokes through, the more invisible my characters feel. She’s pretty much my most invisible-feeling character. She’s asexual, but she sometimes thinks she is gay. She is not. It’s part of her OCD.

Many people who get a power from Hella don’t know what to do with it. She does have an outlet for her power. Helping people in her future office. I think this storyline stemmed from my old delusion that all mental healthcare workers were mind readers. Her main mission is to help Mac with his false memories, specifically one about her. Delusions, too. She finds that the general public needs therapists just as much as we need psychiatrists.

I didn’t use a reference, but this is as close to her likeness as I could get. I didn’t like the eyes, so I had a reason to squeegee over them, but it’s almost a calling card at this point. Remember! Check the res of this blog out. There’s much going on in my art practice.
