Sketchbook Sunday: Titles Like Poetry

Welcome to my blog! This is what I call Sketchbook Sunday. Every Sunday, I sketch all day and then post about the experience.

This week, I wrote on each sketch the time it took.

This first one was done between 12:08 pm and 12:55 pm. I cropped the time out. I believe for aesthetic reasons, but I’m not sure. I’m probably never going to use paint pens for Sketchbook Sunday again. I want to make them last, so I’m saving them for acrylic paintings and my secret or project. My Sharpie collection is good for practicing. I have a huge amount, into the hundreds. This is what the last paint pen one looks like:

Naming them isn’t just for big ones. Let’s come up with something.

Title: To Get Lost in the Yellow

By the way, my sketchbook is 9 in by 12 in.

This one is probably getting collaged.

This next one is a lot like the style I used for my coloring book, If you’re interested in that, click the link. https://bleedingacrylic.com/2026/05/16/out-now-a-thousand-faces-staring-back-at-you-my-new-coloring-book/

This one was fun. I just wanted to scribble today, so I kept it simple. I actually came up with an idea for one of my secret projects. That’s why we sketch! Make it as pivotal to your practice as the last stroke on the final canvas.

Title: I will never fall like confetti.

I actually love that. It could be a short poem. I did it from 1:12 pm to 1:45 p,m.

With all these sketches, I used a pencil. I normally just jump in with Sharpie. With the ones already mentioned, it wasn’t much different in experience from what I normally do. This next one was different. The initial sketch had way more lines than usual. I was selective about which line got the thick Sharpie and which ones got the thin Sharpie. I didn’t know if I wanted to color it in, so I asked my group home worker, and she said, “Color it.”

I didn’t know if I wanted to do a background, but the worker said to go for it. I used a stencil I had in my bedroom.

Title: I am a lady of exclamation points.

Again, it could be a short poem. Maybe I’ll do a post on how to come up with better titles.

This one with color and letters was my favorite of the day.

1:53 pm to 3:50 pm.

With this next work, I decided not to color it in.I decided that if it needed color, I could always come back to it later. I think the official time I will end on Sketchbook Sunday is at 5:00 pm. This one was between 3:52 pm and 4:24 pm. I had to eat dinner. Which makes me remember, while drawing most of these, I took long breaks, mostly to eat.

Again, this one reminds me of my coloring book.

Title: The surprise does not eat me alive. I eat it. I eat.

This post is making me want to work on poetry.

Maybe that just is what it is. You can’t have poetry without art, and vice versa,

Thanks for venturing into my corner of the Internet.
